Workforce Management: The Importance of Team Dynamics

A team that works well together grows and develops together.

In workplace discussions, one of the most common topics is team dynamics. In an organization, teams work together towards achieving the company goals as well as their own personal targets. Therefore, working in a team is an integral part of delivering business goals. Each idea, comment, feedback, and disagreement is vital to the teams growth and development. This is how common goals are achieved and individual employees grow by being a part of their teams.

However, many times teams feel unmotivated and the general morale is low. How can managers ensure that their teams do not suffer from a lack of motivation? How do they keep the morale high so that the business does not suffer? If employees are not in a balanced state mentally, their work will suffer due to lack of concentration, frustration, and irritation at factors which may be personal or professional. Here are some ways which help build team dynamics:

  1. Take your team out for lunch or dinner: Socializing with colleagues in a non-work environment will help your team know each other better. This is important as when one employee fails to achieve their goals, the team can pool in and help the colleague deliver their goals. Camaraderie and friendship is important for good team dynamics as it keeps the team happy.

  2. Organize craft days: Arts and crafts are a great stress buster. You can organize a painting or sculpting class/session for a couple of hours, or a whole day, and have your team interact with each other in a non-competitive setting.

  3. Share individual achievements: Let your team know when one employee has good news to share, be it personal or professional. Have your team share the happiness with the employee. Similarly, when an employee is not doing so well, be discreet about their issue and try and help in the best possible managerial capacity. Let them know that you care for their personal wellbeing as well.

  4. Involve the team in important discussions: Employees do not always trust closed door meetings. Share leadership insight and meeting points with your employees after the meetings, and ask for their opinions on the same. Make them feel valued members of the organization by taking their opinion and passing on the same to leadership. In case their suggestions are implemented, the employees will feel good about making an impact in the organization. That is a great morale booster.

Ask employees to take up informal initiatives: Employees feel inspired by sharing each others inspirations and getting a chance to share their opinions. You can help them realize a creativity corner, or fun zone”, or office games during office hours. Employees get to unwind and recharge after such initiatives. They will go back to work feeling refreshed and would look forward to taking these initiatives in the coming days and weeks.
